KOUSEIKAN Shishin Houten-ryu Classical Japanese Martial Arts

Hello, My name is Tomoki Yoshida, Head Instructor and Founder of Shishin Houten-ryu Kouseikan.
Our school is a modern yet traditional comprehensive martial art, founded in the Reiwa era and practiced in Takatsuki City, Osaka.
We study classical Japanese martial arts such as Kenjutsu (swordsmanship), Iaijutsu, Bojutsu, Naginatajutsu, as well as Jujutsu, a traditional unarmed combat system.
At the same time, we place great importance on the moral and human development of the practitioner.

Not Entertainment, Not Performance

Kouseikan is not a place to practice flashy choreography, theatrical sword fighting, or performance-style movements as seen in movies.
This is a traditional Japanese dojo, where classical martial arts are studied with sincerity, discipline, and respect.
Safety and Training Environment All training is conducted using wooden weapons only.
Safety, control, and mutual respect are strictly emphasized at all times, allowing participants to train seriously while minimizing risk.
Training is conducted in a quiet indoor dojo environment, with emphasis on etiquette, posture, and proper form.

Philosophy of the Dojo

The core philosophy of our dojo is: To transmit the techniques, teachings, and cultural heritage of classical Japanese martial arts, to cultivate Bushido-based ethics, and to nurture individuals who can live guided by their own inner principles rather than external expectations.
Training here is not limited to physical technique alone.
We also study Bushido philosophy, so that practitioners may walk the path of sincerity and integrity as human beings.
We believe this is the true significance of studying classical martial arts and Bushido in today’s VUCA world—an unpredictable and unstable era.
Learning Through the Body One of the most fascinating aspects of classical martial arts is that philosophy is understood through the body.
For example, when swinging a wooden sword, ignoring its weight and relying solely on force will never lead to proper technique.
Instead, the movement becomes slower and ineffective.
True mastery requires learning techniques in accordance with the principles of nature.
While this may sound philosophical, in classical martial arts these principles are embedded within movement itself.
Through repeated practice, understanding arises naturally through experience.
